Reflective SuperVision: Not Just a Safety Net — A Space to Reflect, Realign and Reconnect

In the family support sector — and across all caring professions — the work can be as demanding as it is meaningful. We’re often supporting others through challenge, holding complexity, and working in systems that can crowd out every minute of our day. We are so focused on holding space for others that we rarely stop to ask: ‘Who is holding space for me?’

SuperVision could be that space – but, often, busy managers imagine that professional reflective practice will be just another demand on their time.

But what if SuperVision was an opportunity to work on the business — instead of in the business?

What if SuperVision wasn’t just a space to talk about what’s going wrong?

What if it was also a space to celebrate what’s working well – an opportunity to pause, to reassess, to re-evaluate, and then to step forward with greater courage, clarity, and confidence?

What is Reflective SuperVision?

I love to spell this as ‘SuperVision’ – with a capital ’S’ and a capital ‘V’ – because it can give us super vision: an opportunity to step back, to look at the big picture, to see things from other perspectives, and to look inwards and discover our own wisdom.

It’s not about oversight — it’s an opportunity for insight.

Unlike line-management or clinical supervision, Reflective SuperVision is non-hierarchical, non-evaluative, and can be deeply supportive and affirming.

I remember my first experience of SuperVision — not because it was dramatic, but because it offered a moment of stillness. I wasn’t being judged or analysed. I simply felt met. That spaciousness gave me the breath I hadn’t realised I’d been holding. It was the beginning of something important.

Reflective SuperVision is a collaborative, psychologically safe space, where we can rediscover our ‘brave’. It invites us to pause and reflect — not only on what’s difficult, but also on what’s unfolding well. It’s a space to:

  • Explore emotional and ethical challenges
  • Reconnect with our sense of purpose
  • Reflect on what’s going well, and celebrate progress and success
  • Restore our professional integrity

These moments of reflection don’t just stay in the SuperVision space — they ripple outwards. They can influence how we lead, how we respond and relate to those we support.

Whether you prefer a unique space for yourself to process your work or the shared wisdom of a group, I offer both 1-to-1 and Creative Group SuperVision.
